Minors and Majors
|
Minors AAA and Majors divisions have been renamed for the upcoming season: Minors AAA will be 'Majors American League' (Majors AL); and Majors will be 'Majors National League' (Majors NL). As in the past, both of these divisions will play at Eldon Park. This change will leave only AA in our Minors division, which plays at Cleveland.
The reason for the change is that it will benefit our players as follows: • any 12 year old who chooses to play in Majors American League will be allowed to pitch. Under current Little League International rules, 12 year olds are not allowed to pitch in Minors AAA. • all league age 11 and 12 players who play in Majors American League will be eligible to tryout for our Majors All-Star tournament team. In the past, as per Little League rules, players were not allowed to try out for the Majors All-Star tournament team if they had played the regular season in Minors AAA.
This change will also occur at Highlands LL and North Van Central so that the divisions are consistent for interlock play. By having our three leagues institute this change, we have aligned with West Van and Cypress LL, who have named their divisions this way for many years.
For the purposes of registration, players will be placed in divisions based on league age, as follows. Minors AA - league age 9 & 10 Majors AL - league age 11 Majors NL - league age 12
For the purposes of team formation, players may be moved to a different division (primarily a skills based decision). For more info please review the info that you receive when you register your player.
Juniors
There may be an opportunity for the FHLL Juniors level to be divided into tier 1 and tier 2. However, that decision cannot be made until the registrations have closed for all the D5 little leagues ( North Shore) and after the leagues have had an opportunity for input at the district level. A decision will be based on the registration numbers and whether there will be enough opposing teams from neighbouring leagues and districts to create two tiers. We should have a decision by January or February.
